Yes, so you know the stories about the student that does something stupid while cutting something for class. slips and has to go to the hospital? WEll that wasnt me. but almost. I was using an exacto knife between class today, the thing slipped and slid right into my finger. pretty deep. I think i actually hit bone and there was blood, that literally poured. im sorry. but i need to vent this. I ran to the sink to get cold water on it, dripping along the way. I was so proud that i got to the sink and was suprised that it didnt hurt, but at some point after watching all the red water, i started getting queasy, and anyone that knows me, knows that is bad. so i got a paper towel around my thumb and sat down eventually having to laydown. Atfer a few min and jackie ministering to my thumb, i felt ok and worked my way to my desk. I decided to clean up the blood. Back i went to the floor(purposefully)and laid there until i decided to go home, cause of how ill i was feeling. but we were supposed to go to coffee with astrid(ironically the teacher in whose class i passed out in last year) today, and i really wanted to go. So i bucked up and went. And it was fun. She does want to go to italy and germany and some other good professors are toying with the idea, so the outlook is good on the trip next year, pending the influx of money. So now i have a big hole in my finger, covered by a bandaid that wont be removed for days as i am scared to see and pass out. And a half finished ravenclaw scarf for harry potter tommorrow night.
Wish me luck

So, since the weekend is officially over and its Tuesday, i thought i would give a qick run down of the week. After a rather trying time of finishing projects and midterms, i got to settle in the next project. A reclaimation of south higuera, we're still in the prelminary conceptual work so its not too stressful. But on the more interesting and lighter side, i was given a very special privilige last week. Well two actually, but we'll get to the other one later. I recieved an invitation to observe Arnold Schwarzeneggar in a city forum about the special election. On thurs night, i drove down to madonna in to find hundreds of protesters at the intersection, with signs and chants everywhere, i "braved" the section in my car and passed hundreds of glares at the entrance. There were men with rifles asking me my name as i drove in, and i picked up an elderly woman there to give her a ride. We then road the rather long entrance road to large building at the back of the ranch. That night, I unknowling had a conversation with the mayor of San Luis Obispo and sat 20 feet away from arnold as he spoke. He was a very Charismatic speaker, and while people would say thats because he is an actor, You cant act that. Plus arnold is not that great an actor, and responses to audience questions cannot be planned. That night i learned many things. I was informed about the propostions, i learned that arnold is a VERY big man, and yes, he is as tall as my dad.(sorry)
So my other privilige was spending the weekend with a good old friend. Doug came to visit and the weekend was filled with Doug hugs laughs and catching up. Thanks for coming doug. I appreciate it. Hmm, its late, and i dont want a motherly email about my sleeping habits, so i bid adieu. haha. Im out.

Umm, sorry
Ok, i know, i know, its been a long while and all of you have been wondering where ive been.....im sure. well, my quarter is extremely busy and free time is less than easy to attain. i am sorry. I have a job now, where i work 6 hours per week, and i just got my first pay check. 48.65 yes its small, but i started working partway into the period. anyway. i am going to have extra cash with a nice little check every two weeks and work is during my large break during the day. Ok, so...today i went hking with Brenda and Kevin at Bishops peak. we went geocaching and found the box after reaching the top hill. At the top of the hill you can see all the way to morro bay, los osos, and the grover dunes at the same time pretty high huh? its about 1500 feet and a mile and a half trail. Kevin left a keychain calculator in the box and we all signed our name and the date. I foudn it very enetertaining and wouldnt be at all suprised if we seek a different cache again. here are some pics, of whats happening. enjoy

So, i will be in SLO my thurs of next week, wish me luck, and give a prayer for those in Louisiana and Miss, they need it more than me. Im out

Update
Well I shall try to explain to all of you what my summer has been like so far, its been up and down already, starting with the down. I did not even get to write my send off farewell from school do to some distressing circumstances. My mother called two days before i was supposed to leave as my grandfather was very sick and she wanted me to leave then next day. There were tears. But Christine and i left the next morning, many thanks to all who helped me leave, especially Jessica and Jeff who surpassed my expectations fully. Christine and I drove through Bakersfield and headed to Las Vegas, we were told my grandfather had been releases from the hospital and not quite understanding these implications... we went on a 6 hour tour of the Strip. We saw the volcano and the Treasure Island battle,(battle of the sexes, not guns)My favorite part however was the Bellagio fountain display with about 5 acres of fountains shooting water in the air in a pattern to any song of their choosing, it was beautiful. We stayed at Circus circus and left the next morning for laramie, Wyoming, where i happen to be writing this update from. We spent one night here with my aunt and uncle, but accross the alley at my grandmother's(maternal) old house and headed for walnut,Iowa where we spent the next night. The next day we finally reached Kettle River Minn where my grand parents live where christine and i learned all the facts. My grandfather had what is called Myeloma, a cancer of the blood of sorts, often found in farmers. It had progressed to a point at which there was only a 1/20 chance of surviving the year, or some small time increment like that, i really cannot remember. I will brush ove rthe detail as they still cause anguish to me and i am sure will to any othe rfamily members reading this, but either way, i was with him the night he passed on. And proud to be as hard as it was. The funeral was quiet and conducted by my cousin, on my grandfathers request. My grandmother is as good as any widow of a 55 year marriage could be. The most I have learned from this experience, is not to trust a small down hospital if you feel sick for years. Go where they check for EVERY possiblity.
When my family and i got home I had just a few days before I was to head down to memphis to help out my cousin. My mom said we needed to do one thing, clean the pond. My koi pond had gone three seasons without a good water exchange and sorely needed it. In the process we foun d two large koi that i did not know i had.
Almost one month ago Christine and i left for Tennesee. Where i have been up until last thursday. I got a sneak peak into the life of Chari my cousin and I am con stantly awed at her endurance. With a Nine year old disabled son, she expends more energy in a day than i have in some entire weeks. I only hope that my being there this past month has lightened the load. her daughter Anne is darling who could not be a better sibling for robert. We flew out here to Wyoming on thursday where her parents live and her brother, Charles with two of his three daughters was to lighten the load of his own wife who has a new baby at home. So i am now in laramie after charles and the girls left, a finished Harry Potter that brought tears to my eyes, a gorgeous rec center and one of Kara's friends of last summer for company... Wish me luck.. through my exhaustion.

OUr designs were observed by poeple from the studnet board of reconstruction at the uu, so, they actually liked them and might be using some ideas in the actuakl redesign. It would be pretty cool to see something i thought of constructed. they are taking our work,so now, tonight we are having a bbq at jackies to celbrate the end, and i will be cleaning out my desk tomm :(. im told this is the best studio room, as it has windows... i have to write a paper for history and take an exam for EHD..plants. on tues, then i will spend time with my larc peeps, friends and jeff until i leave for MN on friday...wow, gone so fast, yet not...thank goodness.

So yesterday on my Plant walk, I collected about 12 pounds of various fruits from the campus orchard, lemons limes, oranges, bloodoranges, avacadoes and apricots. Yum. Our teacher let us, but we really are not supposed to take fruit, even if it is picked up off the ground. So today, we cannot drink the water from campus, shower or bath because they found a "varmit" in the water supply, but neglected to tell us that detail.
PLans for week

2 don't use broken arm
study for plants test and lab

schedule
Long few weeks ahead of me. Tonight i had dinner with the girls. Hmmm spaghetti. well anyway. Its bedtime. i will fill yall in on the schedule when ive got time. Night night.
Friday, May 20, 2005
1.Two engineering students crossing the campus when one said, "Where did you get such a great bike?"
The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday minding my own business when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said,'Take what you want.'"
The first engineer nodded approvingly, "Good choice; the clothes probably wouldn't have fit."
2. To the optimist, the glass is half full.
To the pessimist, the glass is half empty.
To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
3.A pastor, a doctor and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers.
The engineer fumed, "What's with these guys? We must have been waiting for 15 minutes!"
The doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such ineptitude!"
The pastor said, "Hey, here comes the greens keeper. Let's have a word with him."
"Hi George! Say, what's with that group ahead of us? They're rather slow, aren't they?"
The greens keeper replied, "Oh, yes, that's a group of blind fire-fighters. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime."
The group was silent for a moment. The pastor said, "That's so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight."
The doctor said, "Good idea. And I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist buddy and see if there's anything he can do for them."
The engineer said, "Why can't these guys play at night?"
4.What is the difference between Mechanical Engineers and Civil Engineers?
Mechanical Engineers build weapons and Civil Engineers build targets.
5. There was an engineer who had an exceptional gift for fixing all things mechanical. After serving his company loyally for over 30 years, he happily retired. Several years later the company contacted him regarding a seemingly impossible problem they were having with one of their multimillion-dollar machines. They had tried everything and everyone else to get the machine to work but to no avail. In
desperation, they called on the retired engineer who had solved so many
of their problems in the past.
The engineer reluctantly took the challenge. He spent a day studying the huge machine. At the end of the day, he marked a small "x" in chalk on a particular component of the machine and stated, "This is where your problem is." The part was replaced and the machine worked perfectly again.
The company received a bill for $50,000 from the engineer for his service. They demanded an itemized accounting of his charges.
The engineer responded briefly: "One chalk mark, $1.00. Knowing where to put it $49,999.00."
It was paid in full and the engineer retired again in peace.
6.The graduate with a Science degree asks, "Why does it work?"
The graduate with an Engineering degree asks, "How does it work?"
The graduate with an Accounting degree asks, "How much will it cost?"
The graduate with an Arts degree asks, "Do you want fries with that?"
7. Three engineering students were gathered together discussing the possible designer of the human body.
One said, "It was a mechanical engineer. Just look at all the joints."
Another said, "No, it was an electrical engineer. The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections."
The last one said, "Actually it was a civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?"
8. An architect, an artist and an engineer were discussing whether it was better to spend time with the wife or a mistress. The architect said he enjoyed time with his wife, building a solid foundation for an enduring relationship. The artist said he enjoyed time with his mistress, because of the passion and mystery he found there.
The engineer said, "I like both."
The others: "Both?"
Engineer: "Yeah. If you have a wife and a mistress, they will each assume you are spending time with the other woman, and you can go to the lab and get some work done."
9. An engineer was crossing a road one day when a frog called out to him and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess." He bent over, picked up the frog and put it in his pocket. The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful princess, I will stay with you for one week." The engineer took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and returned it to the pocket. The frog then cried out, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a princess,I'll stay with you and do ANYTHING you want." Again the engineer took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket. Finally, the frog asked, "What is the matter? I've told you I'm a beautiful princess, that I'll stay with you for a week and do anything you want.
Why won't you kiss me?"
The engineer said, "Look I'm an engineer. I don't have time for a girlfriend, but a talking frog, now that's cool."
The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday minding my own business when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said,'Take what you want.'"

Monday
Today was very interesting i suppose. Went to computers, and then in studio, we discovered something rather disturbing. Our room is infested with Cockroaches! ewww. So we informed the college secretary and our room should be fumigated in the near future.
I went to History, where i found i am extremely lacking in historical information of the california missions. Too bad it was in fourth grade.:( Oddly enough, my fellow clssmates nominated me for a student service award, either to the college, or class, or volunteering in other ways. Given that I was the student who collecting the nominations, and i did nto see any nominations with my name on it. I didn't go to the awards ceremony. Apparently, students came to Astrid (My advisor) with votes that they couldn't give to me, well, cuz i was tabbing them, and well, that would be odd. I got Kevin's gift finished, thank goodness the cad lab is cheap. I am posting a link so that you can see what the gift was. I'm out.

Saturday
So after a seis de Mayo Party last night and a rather early start today, i went to studio to work on a project with kelly. Now I am done with homework for the weekend and realize that this is my last true summer. Sure, i might have a job, but i probably won't be full time. From now on, my summers will be all work no play. Maybe even all class. ewww. But this summer will be spent back at home in Ohio, and in Memphis with cousins I have not seen in 4 years. Ouch. There are also some couisns i would like to see that i have never seen. Hmmm. I hope that will happen. Well enough theory, I am hungry.

Well, I would title this, but then i would just get into trouble
There is a new store that sells husbands, and has just opened in Ottawa, where a woman may go to choose a husband from among many men. The store is comprised of 6 floors, and the men increase in positive attributes as the shopper ascends the flights. There is, however, a catch. As you open the door to any floor you may choose a man from that floor, but if you go up a floor, you cannot go back down except to exit the building.
So a woman goes to the shopping center to find a husband. On the first floor the sign on the door reads: “Floor 1 - These men have jobs.” The woman reads the sign and says to herself, “Well, that’s better than my last boyfriend, but I wonder what’s further up?” So up she goes.
The second floor sign reads: “Floor 2 - These men have jobs and love kids.” The woman remarks to herself, “That’s great, but there's more to a relationship.” And up she goes again.
The third floor sign reads: “Floor 3 - These men have jobs, love kids, and are extremely good looking.” “Hmmm, better.” she says. “But I wonder what’s upstairs?”
The fourth floor sign reads: “Floor 4 - These men have jobs, love kids, are extremely good looking, and help with the housework.” “Wow!” exclaims the woman, “very tempting. BUT, there must be more further up!” And again she heads up another flight.
The fifth floor sign reads: “Floor 5 - These men have jobs, love kids, are extremely good looking, help with the housework, and have a strong romantic streak.” “Oh, mercy me! But just think what must be awaiting me further on?” So up to the sixth floor she goes.
The sixth floor sign reads: “Floor 6 - You are visitor 3,456,789,012 to this floor. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please.”

Felicitaciones
It's cinco de Mayo, did you know? Well on this manic Thursday, I am finally done. WEll not done, but done with the highly concentrated work demands. Hmmm, yay? On Tues, I had a history of landscape architecture test. So many names, so much writing. But i did fell a little better afterwards when Astrid called me over to congratulate me, once again on a job well done. She did not agree with Stratton's belief that the project should only be done in markers and colored pencils, but, what could i do? Get a bad grade for the sake of what color I want my trees. (If you saw it my last project was done in green, purple and blue, ironically the only colors contained in my closet.) It made me feel a little better, even though i got the freebee question wrong. What does ASLA stand for, duh! stupid Laura. I told myself, no it isn't american society of landscape architects, it's something more odd. Oh, on monday we went to downtown Slo for class and looked at urban plazas and their relations to people, there will be a link to the pic, i think, on the title of this entry. On wednesday i had a plants test on all 100 plants from the past few weeks, free back massage to whomsoever can tell me, what crenate means. (without research, dad) Then yet again this morning i took a lab plants test for identification, since the list is now longer and the tests are cumulative, well, lets just say, its getting harder, but currently, i have a 93 in lab, so i am not too worried. In computers today, we had a lesson on sketch-up, basically the only 3-d application i will use, and now i am home.

May Day
It's been another long and busy weekend for me. On Friday morining for my presentation in LA 253, I had to discuss and explain my design to 2 5th years and 3 professors. They liked my design, I guess and the fifth years appreciated my presentation. Quote, "the lack of ums was great!" Who knew? My plants class for the day had been cancelled, so Jackie and I headed directly to the Gym where we ran for a half an hour then played raquetball. My new raquet is very tennis-like so i had to play with the Bandido, and probably will until my wrists are strong enough to play with my own. :) Later, I headed over to Jackie's with the Larc girls and we had a wonderful potluck dinner with salad potstickers, fruit salad and cheesy potatoes. MMMmmm, we then had cupcakes for dessert. The night went quicky and we only watched one movie, Life as a House. It was very, well chick flicky. The main character boy was apparently a duplicate of Jackies brother, so she identified well with the punk :) In the morning Anna and I headed out early tio hit a garage sale of a graduationg Larc student. I bought a chinese painting set and anna bought some circle templates. Apparently the girl, Amber is heading to Florida to work for imagineering. They loved her senior project of the biodome on Mars and will be hiring her in the next year.
Later when i came bnack to the apartment, it was a little smoky. I cold smell meat so i didn't care much. But then i heard brenda scream, its on fire! So, i got to use the fire extinguisher for the first time and then our room fire alarm went off, but all was well, caus eours was the only one, the fire was out, and the artichokes were ok. So Brenda ended up ordering pizza, and we headed to the movie a little later.
The movie, was a whole other story. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe was filled with an odd sense of humor that I absolutely enjoyed. It makes me wish i had read the book first, but then i would be like those idiots who say the book was better, but not know, it was a radio show first. meh. what can you do? We went to Bali's for Ice cream afterwards and then played poker for a little before bed, i did not win, but i did well, and there was no money, so no worries Mom.
Now, today, again I will be busy. I have two midterms to study for, a much needed grocery trip and two loads of laundry, and i will not have my cell with me, as it is charging, so good luck. I'm off.

Week Five
This week for classes is week five, the classic week for finished projects and midterms, nothing about this week stemmed away from that. I spent about 12 hours in studio last weekend alone. There were people coming in and out working on there own projects, so it wasn't too boring. I finished my details and plan drawings on Monday and got them copied with Mary and Jackie. You know, it takes a long time to pen a plan when you draw every individual tree on a 16 acre site? On Tuesday i came in for class at ten, left for an hour break during the day and left at 2 in the morning, just to color! Ick! I came in at about 9 Wednesday (that is sleeping in) and lettered my legend and turned in the project by noon. Wheww! Well tomm. after a couple night's sleep, i have to present my project to a board of students and professors for a crit. Eep! Hmm, well i am supposed to dress up and be as professional as possible. But my plants class tomm. was cancelled and i will be finshed by noon. Then tomorrow night there is another project completed sleepover at jackies. with Chickflicks and a potluck.
Last night was interesting, in case you haven't heard. After i studied my plants till, well too late in the morning i was checking my email, and my computer exploded!. Well i thought it exploded, but it was a transformer that blew and caused a brownout on this side of campus. I looked outside my window and i could see many windows with flashlights moving around inside as people tried to orient themsleves. We had a wonderful thunderstorm right after and it made my day, well my night. This morning i tried to wake everyone i knew had a morning class or had a test with me at 8. So, lesson of the day....
Buy an alrm with room for a battery in case the electricity goes out. ;)

I know, i know, its been a while, I haven't been up to par. But guess what?!, We found a house, we didn't get the first one we applied for, but one nearby that we got the day aftre it was posted, cool huh. 4 bedrooms too. Yesterday i woke at 7 and went in to lab and worked for 4 hours on my professor's request. He gave me a quick crit and then asked me to come in on sun. Really, he did. I told him i had church and would be busy otherwise. Didn't wake for church though. Stupid alarm. I also went to Jackie's roomates birthday party, it was...um...interesting. Not much else, we have a signed lease for july first and i will be at home, so i think jeff will be subletting for me.

Monday
So i woke up at 630 this morning to head down to santa barbara to look at some places with my 253 class. We first met at 9 at the project site where they are taking a man made reservoir and turning it into a park. Huge place, Sheffield reservoir for the locals. There are 60 foot high tanks that were put in to hold the water and they will be buried, mainly for aestethics, but i am told also as a terrorist deterrent, "if you can't see it, it isn't there"
We then met at a very fast paced LA corporation office, Susan Van Atta's comp.( Look it up, you'll find it) they showed us different programs they were working on including the reservoir. We learned about different office atmospheres and starting salaries.......don't expect a refund Dad.
We went to luvnch at a nice italian restaurant, only to have Jackie find a lady bug in he rorganic salad. It might have been just me, but i did not eat with quite as much gusto afterwards. Atleast jackie got the meal for free.
We then met at Ellings Park. A large park that was actually built over an old landfill, it was quite beautiful and i am trying to figure what idiot would put his trash there, Oh well, its water under the bridge, or at least trash under the hill.
We stopped at one more site of the office where money was spent outside and thought out more than the actual offices, but the budget was low, so the site will not look like the plans for about 10 years. Uggh.

Sunday Observations
1. Church was what I needed.
2. I can sing soprano quite easily.
3. My entire life I have been too proud to sing in church because of a sister who was too scared to and molded her younger sisters to believe singing in church was stupid.
4. Favorite hymn- Great is Thy Faithfulness.
5. The Lord's Prayer has many different versions and when in a different denominational church should not be stated to loudly, as one can make a fool of themself. (I already knew that, but today really, truly reminded me.
6. People are very nice at the First Presbyterian church.
7. They give out free mugs.
8. They also like birthdays, as afterwards they were having a party for everyone's birthday.
9. People finally recognize me as a college age student. (might have been my attire)
10. Quotes of the sermon. "No man has lost until he blames someone else."
"A Person who does not allow himself to fail, does not allow himself to improve."

The Weekend
Well i have to say the second part of the weekend got off to a splendid start. I played poker with Kevin, Kevin, Robert, John and Jeff, yeah, the only girl, oh well. When we played for money, i more than well represented the female kind, as i won! well, almost. Robert and I did not play head to head, as that is no fun and it was late anyway. This morning a number of us headed off to the Beach in Pismo, but it was bitterly cold (for Cal) and laying in the cold wind in a swimsuit was not an option. So, we went on the swings and made a sand society. I'd say sand castle, but that term is far too elementary for our polytheistic society. Paying homeage to a water god, the city in complete with embattlements, A temple (for every state of water) a city bath (co-ed, but seperate)
a large bridge to cross the moat, John's building (never found out what that was) and Brenda's leper society, within the city limits, but not within the city walls. Tonight, we watched a movie
The Little Shop of Horrors, wierd movie. oh well, Night all. I'm out.

Saturday
Last night was quite fun at Jackies, just a girls night with sushi movies popcorn and ice cream. No pillow fights though, sorry guys. I did not however sleep over, i came back home to sleep in my own bed.,....mmmm sleep. I woke up at 10 (yay) and went down to grover beach to change my oil at Christine's. there was a prob though, my car is too low for the ramps, The grill hits and pushes the ramps away before the tires cam get on them, so oil change did not happen, i did however wash my car, and will bring it in for a check up soon anyway, its due. I stopped at Walmart for an iron on patch, stupid pants, and then headed to Jackies to start a housing search. We found a couple, but only one that doesn't rent until summer.....anyone need a summer sublet? I might have one. We went to Bali's for yogurt then I came home, to fill you in on my very boring day.

Thurs and Friday
Thurs morning Joel and i worked on our piece of the design by the railroad and santa barbara street. we then all got together to piece together our collage of different pieces. We tried to start another master plan, but did not have time before our presentation of the day. The leaders foragce us for not having everything down because they knew we had ideas that were not expressed on paper yet. Afterwards, we divied the work and i left for dinner as my part could not be done until the final master plan was completed. When i returned at 8 the three people working ont he model had gotten very little done, but marisa and Matt had gotten pretty far on the plan. So I started my sections through santa barbara and the RR and finished coloring them by 1130. OUr tream leader matt apologized that they didn't get to teach the lower classmen much, but there wasn't time in a week. Especially when other classes are cutting in.
So today, being Friday. We got together to prepare for our final prersentation to government officials and divied again what we would say. Our presentation went very smoothly and i found that our group was not far behind in productiona at all. It seemed that work actually impressed. I think i finally showed tot he upper classmen that i am not a total dunce as they started to trust me towards the end, and i actually think i learned thing this week, making this week a success, i suppose.(BTW, the last line is going on my paper about it...sorry)

Wednesday
Well hmmm, today was a rather disheartening day for me. Woke up early and headed to class only to find that i was the only one there. I guess i missed the memo. :) So instead i headed down to the gallery to work on our project, again to find no one from my group there. uh oh. so instead of fretting i decided to start on some detail sketches and sections. As members started to arrive i was informed that the ever absent fifth years had declared our projects garbage, redid the design and then left. so i was given a new assignment to work on with Kate and Joel, the perspectives and the sections. We then had another crit where we were informed that our new design was too artsy and less realistic than the day before. So, we then went back to work for a couple hours and devided the work. We will come back tommorrow morning to compare and contributs our parts to the entire piece. So here i go.

Tuesday
I have to apologize for this week's blog has two uses, one is to inform my readers of my first week, the other is to be used as my design week journal, so read on, and be bored( not going in journal) On monday, we all headed down to the gallery to be introduced to Design Week. We were shown where the site was and told a little of what was happening. I went with Jeff and other to the site where we filled out the analysis form. I have to say Joe Ragsdale was right, the site is a little "funky". We then had to leave early for class and came back at three. I was probably sitting at table 18 for a full hour before my team made it over.We chose a team leader and a scribe. we then were explained the program and informed of the history of the area and little italy. We did a couple brainstroming exercises and some teamwork activities, where we learned that our group was definately not on the same page.especailly with the spagetti time when we were supposed to suspend a construction of spag off the end of the table with tape as far as possible. It was rediculous. Well Today was officially day two of Design week. Due to a full six hours of class starting at 8 this morning, i did not get to the gallery until 2 this afternoon. I arrived to find my partners over a copy of out site analysis. There were only five of us there and i have yet to see any 5th years. I have to admit that is a little dissapointing considering three were listed. After struggling to get some good ideas down, we got a crit from the four professionals and i can say, quite easily, that they were unimpressed. That actually i think i what we needed so afterwards we sat down and started to get busy on different design ideas that we could all help with rather than watch the upper classmen take over and take no suggestions from the lower classmen. We then took a break for dinner and i will be going back at 7 to help with some section, details and the help with the full scale plan.

Oh, thanks to some engineers on the fourth floor, my toaster oven is back in working order! Thanks Kevin Jeff and John. I really appreciate it.

Saturday
Hmm, well when i came back from Ohio i had planned to have a relaxing finish to the week. Well that night (wednesday) Jeff got a phone call from an old high school friend, Matt. matt was bored and wanted entertainment. He was in San Francisco, just a few hour away and wanted jeff to visit. So on Thurs jeff and i drove the 250 miles to castro valley to visit Matt and his roomate Gino. We used Mapquest and did not get lost once. When we met matt and gino we then went and drove to downtown san fran. We ate at Pier 39 in the Bubbs Gump shrimp restaurant based on Forrest gump. Really really deliscious food. We watched street vendors paint beautiful pictures with spray cans and paper. They then firedried them by lioghting the spray can on fire. Jeff bought me a beautiful picture. We walked around the city and ate ice cream, at ghiridelli square. Yum! We then paid(well jef did) a rather large parkign fee. We brought Matt and Gino back and said goodbye. I think however I passed the friend test. jeff Told me that Matt usually does not talk so much, so i guess that worked.
We then drove to Lafeyette to spend the night at Jackie's house. It was a little odd sleeping in someones house when i had never met her parents, btu what can you do? We watched some tv then Finding Nevrland. i found the movie not quite as depressing as i thought it would be. In the morning, we took the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) to San fran saw the Union square looked at Art work and Ate a a japanese restaurant. It would have been really good, but the fish base soups were a little dissapointing. We then went into Cnina town and i bought about $10 worth of souveniers. Three handpainted scrolls . a set of Health balls two handpainted fans and a set of chopsticks. I think i did pretty well, don't you? we all then headed back to Jackies, dropped her off and headed back. Jackie sent us to Blondie's Pizza. MMMM good pizza, and we were off. and we didn't get lost once on the way back, we then got home safely at 11. Long weekend, well, not yet it hasn't been. Thanks jeff and Jackie for a great time!

Palm Sunday
Hmmm, its about 38 degrees outside on the common early early spring day in Ohio. Its hazy and overall seems pretty dark. We went to church this morning. It was nice. They even gave us palms to save and dry for ash sunday next year. ;) They even closed the service with one of my favorite songs. Edelweiss. Well kinda, there were different words, but the tune was the same. As I sit here at the computer I see two woodpeckers at the birdfeeders outside. Kara tells me that they are downey woodpeckers. Whatever kind they are they look like Woody the woodpecker, but i don't here them laughing. Oh and now a big fat squirrel has chased thebirds away. Unlike California, the daphodils here are just peaking out of the soil. Outside the family room window, the Crocuses and the Snowdrops are the only thing flowering. It hasn't really started as spring yet, but then again, spring out here comes with more of a bang as opposed to California's which passes in the blink of an eye. But I am going back to school before we see the effects, Oh well, I will be back for late spring, so i guess i shouldn't complain too much ;). I'm out.

Busy
Busy busy busy. It's all i can say. It's all i have been. Last week we had our final project due in our design studio. During the week i spent 56 ours in studio....no joke. To top it off i went to class on thurs and did not come back until 28 hours later. It was intense, but i think the project came out well. :) During our alnighter, as i wasn't the only one, we found the entrance to the attic of dexter. We went up into the dark scary place. Being that Dexter is the oldest building on campus, it was pretty creepy. I made it through the night and got my project in just a half hour late. :( My prof didn't mind however. I actually got a "wow" out of her which is a good sign. Hmmm, after i took a nap, I played poker with John jeff kevin robyn and who friend Bula, who we introduced a couple of games to, then John jeff and i went to Throw fest at the craft center. John made a beautiful pot/vase and wowed jeff and me with his throwing ability. Given lack of sleep, jeff and i gave a less than awe inspiring performance on the wheel, but i had fun and learned that i can't use a pottery wheel for anything and experienced more of john's wonderful abilities.
yesterday was my dad's birthday. "happy birthday daddy!" I called him and went to Jackie's Condo to start food for a major Larc slumber party. Jacky and I made Lasagna with the last of my homemade pasta sauce. Thanks mom, it was delicious! and a cake. There were 7 of us total and we watched chick flicks and decorated "marker baskets" courtesy of Julie. Oh, happy birthday julie! I actually woke up rather early for a slumber party 1030. Probably due to my odd sleep schedule and now and home. With nothing due in the morning......isn't it wonderful? It's an odd feeling not having somehting hanging over my head and knowing i have to go to studio tonight. Oh! and tommorrow. I get to clean my borco board, Yay! I don't know why that makes me happy. I have to finish a drainage plan my next week and do a take home final. but then i will be done. and can go home. I'll be back b4 the end of break for those who are not going home. Jeff and i plan to do some local exploration, that should be fun. Ok well my room is claen now and i can't remember anything else. I'm out.

Tues
Ok, so, well, i haven't been very good about updating, many things afoot, some good some bad, but alls well that ends well. Isn't that right Shakespeare? Hmmm, Valentine's day went wonderfulkly and Jeff got me theillustrated edition of THe Davinci Code, very good so far, but no worries, i won't say anything yet. Hmmm. i just amde him a redone or modded version of an internet comic, i thought it turned out rather well, for my first attempt at photoshop. Oh i also got him some addidas scented stuff, (actually i got it after chrsitmas so it was no haul on the wallet) today I worked on three projects within one class's studio, so much for getting alot done this weekend, well, i worked, but apparently, not enough. Oh and yes, i get to go home, For spring break. I know not many would think a trip to snow where its so flat that skiing is not an option is the chiocest of places for spring break, but its home and i miss it. well, only a few more weeks and i'll be there. I'm out.

Sunday Morning
Well, after sleeping for a few hours i have come to find I can sleep no more. Well hmmm what's happening in Laura's world. Well on Friday I presented my fifth and final phase of the prcendent sin and virtue garden, It was a little difficult given the fact that my professors fly was down and so many poeple were laughing, but he is a self righteous know it all and he deserves a little humiliation anyway, so i didn't feel too badly. Hmm, on friday night jeff, john, kevin, jessica, robyn brenda and i went out to tortilla flats for some trans dancing. We got to see many many cops on the prowl but were never stopped, even at the check point, the cops let us drive right through, I guess we all looked to innocent to be drunk :) Last night we had some fun times when we had our own Marti gras party. It got a little messy with the blender, poeple booed the virgin drinks, and there was atleast one sound complaint., but poeple will feel better for it in the morning. Not much else on my plate right now, but i do have a LA history midterm next wed, so i will prob get a start on the reading today anyway. Im out

Wednesday
Isn't it odd that after the happenmings of last week, I have had very little drive to even put but a small comment on this site. Hmmm, well given that my last update was almost a week ago, i suppose i could Atleast talk of this week and the weekend. We did the bonfdire thing brenda wanted to do, but it was not as great as we had hoped. At Avila they had taken away the fire rings that permit fires, so we had to go down to grover to have a legal fire, when we got there there was little dry wood and we had but a small amount as it was thanks to john and brenda. the fire was small, but we went to mcdonalds and jack in the box after and all was well. After three days of the week i have already spent 24 hours in studio drawing. I can honestly say right now that i already wish i had spent more. Well this weekend will be intersting, dancing on friday and then my roomies and i are having a marti gras party on sat. For ya'll who read this, you're invited. Just because i know all my readers are such wonderful people.

Friday
Well I suppose its Friday and i haven't eaten dinner yet, but its still a little early. Went to many hours of class today. Kicked my assignment's but last night. Its only my 4th design idea for the same project. I had to go to two different non class lectures today. One was of the Landscape Architects Directors board, the othe was of Topher Delaney, the queen of Landscape Architecture, so. "I just HAD to go" Look her up, she's like the Frank Lloyd Wright of LA, but she calls herself a gardener, artist, and anthropologist, but never a Landscape Architect. And well, i think i am going to Best buy tonight to get a drive cleaner for my puter. Its just not cool when every CD you burn skips. I also need some groceries, so those two are close by and I know jeff will join me, we'll take a pic of Jon's stool and the like. Plus, I don't think Jeff would pass up a trip to Best Buy if he were on his death bed.....the nerd. Aight, well, i think i am off to go get some din din so i don't go shopping hungry, cause we all know its a bad idea. Oh and i will prob be going to Phantom with Kirstin and Billy and Peeps Tomm. just to fill yall in cause this weekend will be busy and i don't think i will remember all that i do.....I'm out

Tuesday night
Well yesterday, i can't really remember much of, I know i spent many hours in lab and then came back for some grilled cheese sandwich and to rearrange my room. I recieve some rather disturbing news however. My friend from high school had attempted suicide on Sunday evening and had been on life support all day. He passed late last night. I wish i knew what he was thinking. He always seemed so happy in high school. A witty and interesting addition to any conversation, he will always be remembered. Farewell my friend.

Sun evening
Well, we all know I have been sick, but now that I am finally feeling healthy, other than a nagging ear infection, I can fill everyone in on the happenings of this past weekend. On friday, brenda's friend taryn drove up, and we played some good old fashioned dvd board games. On Saturday, Brenda Taryn jessica and I went up the coast to Cayucas and looked at the Tide pools, I got attacked by a crab and we were followed by a family and a pair of chocolate labs. When we headed back due tot he returning tide, the family asked us if the dogs were theirs. Indeed they were not. This pair of dogs had happily followed us out into the pools swimming to the birds and around the corner, out of sight and earshot of anyone that could be their owners. When we got back tot he beach, the owners were not to be found. We called the phone # on "Tony's" tag and there was no asnswer. WE left the dogs in the watch of a family that was spending the day at the beach, and i hope their owners found them. We then left and headed up the coast to san simeon to watch the sea elephants. Again, there were thousands, with small newborn pups. After just a few min, we actually got to see a live birth, steamy and wet, in all its glory. :/ We also got to see the other end of the reproduction cycle (i'm sure you can assume what i mean) and males fighting in all their fat glory. We headed back to san luis to nap and then head to smile and nod, it was wonderful show. Then we played a game of poker, i bought out after i broke even after an hour, i was tired and did not feel like losing money because of it. I went to bed and then woke up today to work on my project for LA 252. using one of the 7 deadly sins and 7 virtues i needed to redue, dexter lawn. I used fortitude and sloth, using both martha schwartz and robert smithson. I know that means nothing to you, but it will help me remember looking at this years from now. Well, have talked quite a bit, so i am out.

Hmmm, Wed, i suppose
I have not updated due to well, numerous reasons, but mainly due to what i thought was strep, but it turned out not being so. On Wednesday of last week, after feeling a little tired and a nap, i went to La 311, onloy to find that 20 min, in, i felt very faint. Well, needless to say, i passed out with 30 some onlookers, Astrid, my prof, dismissed the class and stayed with me while Andrea a \nothe rclassmate talked me through. a policeman came and so did the ambulance, but i refused a ride and went backt o my room to basically lay down until today, when i started working on long overdue porjects, i feel a little out of sorts, but i think i will be much better come tomm, not tired yet, but i will get a good nights rest and hopefully keep jeff from feeling worse than he already is tomm.

I am currently trying to begin to like coffee, but i fear that might be a very long and hard process for me as i abhore the stuff. But i must admit i did finish a whole mug of it yesterday, well then it did have some cream, you need to give me some time and maybe it will happen. :) I'm out.
